CSOFT CEO Shunee Yee Appointed Chair of Joslin Diabetes Center’s A Taste of Ginger 2022

2022年5月24日

BOSTON – May 24, 2022 – CSOFT Health Sciences, leaders in medical translation and market access consulting, is pleased to announce CSOFT Founder and CEO Ms. Shunee Yee’s appointment as Chair to Harvard’s Joslin Diabetes Center’s 17th annual A Taste of Ginger event, marking her second year leading this major diabetes awareness educational and culinary fundraising event. Scheduled for September, this year’s A Taste of Ginger will be its first in person gathering since the start of the pandemic, with plans to feature healthy culinary options from as many as 30 local Asian cuisine restaurants, cultural performances, cooking demonstrations from top Boston chefs, and its annual silent auction. Ms. Yee’s appointment extends CSOFT Health Sciences’ ongoing support for the Harvard’s Joslin Diabetes Center and its Asian American Diabetes Initiative (AADI), an organization founded and led by Dr. George L. King to address the disproportionate rate of diabetes in Asian American populations. Ms. Yee’s appointment coincides with her recent attendance of 2022 Committee of 100 Conference and Gala in recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, further highlighting the importance of Dr. King’s and the AADI’s work in addressing issues of health equity for the AAPI demographic.

“It was exciting to see many of our members at the 2022 Ginger kick-off committee meeting. We look forward to working together to make this year’s A Taste of Ginger successful,” said Yee. “As the first in-person event in three years, we know it will be special.”

AADI provides culturally relevant diabetes research, education, and care to address the rising prevalence of diabetes in Asian Americans. CSOFT’s support and involvement with AADI to date includes the provision of multilingual communication solutions for patients in need of diabetes care who have faced increased difficulty during the pandemic. Research conducted by the AADI established that Asian Americans have a higher prevalence of type two diabetes at lower Body Mass Index (BMI) values than white Americans. This finding identified the ineffectiveness of current BMI values to indicate elevated risk of diabetes in Asian Americans and highlighted the need for a culturally appropriate BMI value to properly care for the health of millions of Asian Americans. Other impactful studies have revealed how traditional Asian diets affect insulin resistance, underscoring the importance of culturally specific studies when addressing diabetes management.

Discussing the need for improved Asian American representation in the clinical trial process, Dr. King said, “The FDA requires approved drugs to be tested on a population representative of the U.S., however, Asian Americans have one of the lowest clinical trial participation rates in America. Therefore, most clinical trials involve Asian people from outside the U.S. where food, environment, and lifestyles are not reflective of Asian Americans.”

“This AAPI Heritage Month, CSOFT is pleased to be working with leaders in the AAPI community and is looking forward to doing so in person with the incredible team of people behind A Taste of Ginger,” concluded Yee.
